Abstract

The mentoring program for the development of Islamic activities at Istiqomah Orphanage aimed to enhance the quality of religious education for orphans and underprivileged children through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. This method emphasizes the active involvement of foundation administrators, caregivers, and teachers in the processes of problem identification, program planning, implementation, and evaluation. The identification stage revealed diverse educational, socio-economic, and religious backgrounds among the children, indicating the need for standardized Islamic learning. Additionally, the assessment highlighted the importance of reviewing existing programs, ensuring the readiness of facilities and infrastructure, and strengthening human resources as key supporting factors. The planning stage resulted in structured Islamic learning programs covering Qur’an studies, sirah (Islamic history), aqidah (creed), fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), and worship practices, along with supporting activities such as Islamic holiday commemorations, tahfidz competitions, rotating prayer leadership schedules, public speaking training, and Friday prayer bilal training. The observed implementation, particularly in the students’ speech activity, demonstrated that the program ran smoothly from a technical standpoint; however, it revealed the need to further develop students’ confidence and mental readiness to perform in public. The evaluation phase generated several recommendations, including the necessity of continuous mental and confidence-building guidance, melodic Qur’anic recitation training to enhance prayer leadership quality, and talent mapping for students involved in bilal training. Overall, the PAR-based mentoring process successfully encouraged stakeholder participation and produced a more systematic and contextual Islamic activity framework, although sustained participation and psychological development of the children require further strengthening.
